For the third and final session of the ‘Crafting on Screen’ series at *ALTEFABRIK, we will be watching Adrian Paci’s film ‘The Column’. Join us on 30th September for a discussion on craft’s relationship with industrial labour and production.
Adrian Paci is an Albanian artist working in mediums of video, installation, painting and photography. Paci’s work addresses the socio-economic circumstances around themes of geographical separation, cultural identity and personal displacement. Paci participated in the 1999 and 2005 Venice Biennales and represented Albania at the 2014 Venice Architecture Biennale.
The Column (2013) follows a group of workers as they sculpt a marble block on a moving ship and transform it into a Corinthian column. The film concerns topics of globalisation, labour outsourcing, and Western exploitation.

Als Abschluss der Ausstellungsreihe steht die Kulturproduktion selbst im Fokus. Gezeigt werden aktuelle und historische Arbeiten aus Kunst, Politik und Kunsthandwerk, die sich mit den Produktionsbedingungen von Kultur und deren Einfluss auf Gesellschaften auseinandersetzen. Auf diese Weise soll ein Perspektivwechsel auf das kulturelle Gedächtnis der Region ermöglicht werden. Welche Chancen eröffnen sie hier und wer kann dafür einstehen?

The exhibition program concludes by focusing on cultural production itself. It presents contemporary and historical works from art, politics, and crafts that engage with the conditions of cultural production and their impact on society. In doing so, it invites a shift in perspective on the region’s cultural memory. What opportunities for subversion exist here, and who can stand up for them?
